Postdoc Position in Migration Law at Lund University

Applications are invited for a postdoctoral researcher position in international law to join Lund University. The initial contract for this position is three years. Eligible candidates should submit the applications before April 10, 2019.

The Faculty of Law is one of Lund Universitys four founding faculties. The Faculty has approximately 2 000 students enrolled in first and second-cycle courses and programmes, around 160 staff members including 40 doctoral students.

Mainly research but work duties include teaching for up to a maximum of 20 percent of working hours as well as cooperation with wider society.

The researchers and teachers at the Faculty are expected to contribute to a dynamic research environment as well as to other Faculty activities, and to perform work primarily in the workplace provided by the Faculty.

Migration law encompasses the study of questions related to migration within various branches of law, such as human rights law, humanitarian law, refugee law, criminal law and labour law. Migration law entails both international and national aspects. Although there is no comprehensive legal instrument at the international level that establishes a framework for the governance of migration, a set of legal rules constrain, regulate, and channel state authority over migration. Such rules - which have been created through state-to-state relations, negotiations and practice - are enshrined in multilateral and bilateral treaties, non-binding instruments, or have become part of customary international law.

A person shall be qualified for appointment as a postdoctoral fellow who has been awarded a doctor's degree in legal science or a degree deemed equivalent to a doctor's degree in legal science. The doctors degree must be completed no more than three years prior to the application deadline.

Candidates who have completed their degree earlier than this can be considered if special grounds exist. Special grounds include leave of absence because of illness, parental leave, positions as elected representatives in trade union organisations and other similar circumstances.

The assessment criteria for the current post are a good ability to develop and carry out hihg-quality research and teaching skills. The primary focus of the assessment shall be on research expertise.

Attention will also be paid to applicants subject knowledge of migration law.

Fixed-term employment, two years. The appointment can be extended if special grounds exist.

The position is based on a collectiveagreement between the social partners (trade unions and employer’s organisation) dated 4 September 2008.
