Postdoc Position in Correlated Systems Theory at University of Cambridge

University of Cambridge is delighted to offer a postdoctoral researcher position. The funds for this fellowship are available for two years. Eligible candidates should submit the applications before February 08, 2019.

Applications are invited for an EPSRC funded post-doctoral research position in the Theory of Condensed Matter Group, Cavendish Laboratory, University of Cambridge. The post will involve research in the general area of collective quantum matter, as pursued within the groups of Dr C. Castelnovo, Prof N. Cooper and Dr A. Lamacraft.

Areas of current interest include (but are not limited to) many-body localization, frustrated magnetism, topological phases of matter and ultra-cold atomic gases. The candidate should have a strong background in the theory of many particle quantum systems. Familiarity with theories of non-equilibrium quantum systems is desirable, as well as some knowledge of scientific programming. We will particularly value evidence of ability to communicate clearly and present data to other members of the group and collaborators. The candidate will have the ability to work productively in a team and have experience of managing their own workload.

The Theory of Condensed Matter Group ( in Cambridge has an established track record in strongly correlated physics and collective phenomena. The group has a lively range of scientific activities (meetings, journal clubs, internal and external seminars) and has close ties with experimental groups in the Lab. Interactions and collaborations with other members of the group and the Cavendish in general are encouraged.

The post holder will be located at the Department of Physics, Cavendish Laboratory, JJ Thomson Avenue, Cambridge, CB3 0HE, UK.

Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available for two years in the first instance, with the possibility to extend to one additional year. The candidate is expected to be in post by 1st October 2019. An earlier or later start date can be negotiated but no more than 3 months on either side of the above mentioned start date.

If you have any questions about the research topics and environment, please contact the relevant member of TCM. If you have any questions about the application process, please contact the Mott Hub HR Administrator (

Please ensure that you upload your Curriculum Vitae (CV) including a list of publications in the ‘upload’ section of the online application. If desired, candidates can also upload (optionally) a brief statement of research interests, past achievements, and suitability for the role. Applicants will need to provide details of up to 3 referees, who we can contact. Please submit your application by midnight on the closing date.
