Postdoc Position at Imperial College London

Imperial College London, UK is inviting applicants to apply for a postdoc position in geometry. Successful candidate will have funding to work and study for 24 months in UK. Applicants should apply before February 27, 2019.

Applications are invited for a Research Associate to join the numerical group of the Geotechnics Section in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Imperial College London. The successful applicant will be part of an Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) funded project on Climate Adaptation Control Technologies for Urban Spaces (CACTUS), which involves six UK Universities (Durham, Cardiff and Newcastle Universities, Queen's University Belfast, University of Dundee and Imperial College London), and many Industrial Partners. Although the candidate will be entirely based at Imperial College, collaboration with the remaining research teams and participation in workshops and meetings is expected.

The overall aim of the consortium project is to develop composite soil barriers to protect infrastructure in urban spaces from the action of drying/wetting and freezing/thawing cycles. The role of the Imperial team, leading the numerical aspect of the project, is to develop design guidelines and protocols with the aid of numerical tools. Input for the validation of the analyses will be provided by element and physical testing performed by other research groups within the project. Multiple scenarios with reference both to the problem geometry as well as to current and future weather patterns will be considered and the numerical analyses will be used to assess the effectiveness of the proposed adaptation measures for water holding and prevention of water ingress/egress in underlying soils.

This is a fixed term appointment for up to 24 months.

*Candidates who have not yet been officially awarded their PhD will be appointed as Research Assistant within the salary range 33,380 – 35,061 per annum.
