Postdoc Position at Imperial College London

Applications are invited for a postdoctoral associate position in cell biology to join Imperial College London, UK. The funds for this position are available for three years. Applications are invited up to February 14, 2019.

This post is based in the Section of Infectious Diseases at the Hammersmith Hospital, and is for an outstanding post-doctoral Research Associate to join the laboratory of Dr. Paras Anand. This is a fantastic opportunity for a basic science scientist who is passionate, knowledgeable, and well published in the area of innate immunity, inflammation, and inflammasome biology.

The research programme led by Dr. Paras Anand is aimed at understanding the roles and activation mechanisms of innate immune sensors. The group recently demonstrated the activation of the NLRP3 inflammasome by cholesterol trafficking pathway (J Cell Biology, 2018). We have promising preliminary data which we now wish to explore further to decipher the upstream mechanism of inflammasome activation by cholesterol metabolism.

The post-holder will work full-time investigating the role of cholesterol metabolism in inflammasome activation. At a technical level, the post-holder must be highly skilled in research methods employed in immunology, infectious diseases and should have experience in different biochemical assays. The project will involve work with experimental mouse models of inflammation / infectious disease.

The post-holder will be expected to be very prolific in terms of high-quality data production and critical analyses and to contribute to writing important research articles. The right candidate will be strongly encouraged to apply for personal fellowship funding. The post-holder will be expected to guide others in the lab and if contributes significantly this will be recognised with authorship on published papers. The post-holder will also contribute to departmental research in progress meetings and the journal club.

The successful candidate will have a PhD in immunology or infectious diseases (host-pathogen interaction) or equivalent and will have first-authored one or more publications from his/her PhD work.

The successful candidate will have the ambition to work in a world-leading University and contribute to transformative research supporting the research programme of Dr. Paras Anand. You will be expected to be very prolific in terms of high-quality data production and critical analyses and to contribute to writing research articles. A positive attitude, an ability to adapt to the many challenges of the academic research and to use them to grow stronger in the role is essential. Hard working, organised, an ability to work toward deadlines and meet them regularly, capacity to work in different roles as part of a team, flexibility in working hours, commitment, and passion are some of the traits expected from this role.

A suitable candidate who has not been yet been awarded their PhD, will be appointed as a Research Assistant within the salary range 33,380 – 35,061 per annum.

This is a full time, fixed term position for three years based at the Hammersmith Campus of Imperial College London. The post will be line managed by Dr Paras Anand.
