Post Doctor in Mathematics at Lund University

Applicants are invited to apply for a PhD position in mathematics at Lund University, Sweden. This position is available for 2 years. Candidates are welcome before February 28, 2019.

LTH forms the Faculty of Engineering at Lund University, with approximately 9 000 students. The research carried out at LTH is of a high international standard and we are continuously developing our teaching methods and adapting our courses to current needs.

This position is aimed towards research within analysis and dynamical systems. Primarily, the candidate should connect complex analytic methods with dynamical systems in order to strengthen and develop the research covered by the analysis and dynamical systems group at the Division of Mathematics LTH and Numerical Analysis.

Research topics include:Spectral theory of almost periodic operators, extremal polynomials and complex dynamics, diophantine approximation, smooth ergodic theory (e.g. dimension theory in dynamical systems), combinatorial dynamics etc. However, also other directions of research are possible as long they have clear connections to the analysis and dynamical systems group.

The main duties involved in a post-doctoral posistion is to conduct research. Teaching may also be included, but up to no more than 20% of working hours. The position shall include the opportunity for three weeks of training in higher education teaching and learning.

Appointment to a post-doctoral position requires that the applicant has a PhD, or an international degree deemed equivalent to a PhD, within the subject of the position, completed no more than three years before the last date for applications. Under special circumstances, the doctoral degree can have been completed earlier.

The position is mainly focused on research, and therefore the primary assessment of the applicants will be based on their research merits.

It is favourable if the applicant has pedagogical skills. Consideration will also be given to good collaborative skills, drive and independence, how the applicant’s experience and skills complement and strengthen ongoing research within the department, and how they stand to contribute to its future development.

This is a full-time, fixed-term employment of a maximum of 2 years. The period of employment is determined in accordance with the agreement "Avtal om tidsbegrnsad anstllning som postdoktor" ("Agreement on fixed-term employment as a post-doctoral fellow") between Lund University, SACO-S, OFR/S and SEKO, dated 4 September 2008.
