PhD Vacancy in The Area of Audio and Speech Enhancement Using A Combination of Statistical Approaches and Machine Learning

University of Ghent is offering PhD position in signal processing. The deadline to apply is February 01, 2019.

The PhD research proposal concerns the enhancement of noisy speech acquired by a single microphone. Specifically, the topic is at the intersection of signal processing and machine learning. Within this PhD the goal is to develop novel methods for audio and speech enhancement, that combine the strengths of traditional, statistical-model based algorithms with the advantages offered by approaches based on machine learning and deep neural networks. The application areas of this research encompass the fields of telecommunications, hearing prostheses, and human-machine interfaces.

The work will be carried out at the Internet and Data Sciences Lab (IDLab), within the Faculty of Engineering and Architecture of Ghent University, Belgium. We offer candidates the possibility to carry out challenging, high-impact research within a relaxed, supportive, international and interdisciplinary setting.
