PhD Scholarship in Supramolecular Chemistry at The University of Sydney

A PhD scholarship is available at The University of Sydney. The funding allows successful candidate to work for three years. This position is closed on January 24, 2019.

An opportunity is available for an outstanding PhD scholar in the area of Supramolecular Chemistry in the School of Chemistry within the Faculty of Science.

The Scholarship aims to provide an opportunity to the successful candidate to study new macrocyclic and acyclic systems for anion complexation and transport, with the potential application of this work in the treatment of diseases such as cystic fibrosis and cancer. The related research will involve a combination of organic synthesis together with studies on the binding and transport properties of the new compounds produced.

Applicants must have an unconditional offer of admission for full-time studies in a PhD within the School of Chemistry, Faculty of Science at the University of Sydney and be willing to undertake research in the field of Supramolecular Chemistry.

Shortlisted applicant will be interviewed in person or via Skype.

The successful applicant will be awarded the Scholarship on the nomination of the Head of the School of Chemistry in the Faculty of Science.

The Scholarship will provide an annual stipend allowance equivalent to the minimum RTP rate (indexed to the RTP rate on January One each year) for up to three years, subject to satisfactory academic performance. The recipient may apply for an extension of up to 6 months.

Academic course fees are also provided for a successful international applicant, for up to 12 research periods. The recipient may apply for an extension of up to 2 research periods.

Student Services Amenities fee are also provided for a successful international applicant, for the same duration as the stipend allowance.

The cost of a standard Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) for the student. The policy duration will be for the course duration at the time of award, and it will be organised by the University. Policy purchased by the student will not be reimbursed.

Periods of study already undertaken towards the degree prior to the commencement of the Scholarship will be deducted from the maximum duration of the Scholarship excluding the potential extension period.

The Scholarship is for commencement in relevant research period in which it is offered. It cannot be deferred or transferred to another area of research without prior approval.

No other amount is payable.

The Scholarship will be offered subject to the availability of funding.

Progression is subject to passing the annual progress review.
