PhD Scholarship in Protein Science and Signaling Biology

Technical University of Denmark, Denmark has an opening PhD position in organic chemistry. The funds for this position are available for 3 years. Potential candidates should apply before January 31, 2019.

A 3-year PhD position is available in the section for Protein Science & Signaling Biology at the Department of Biotechnology and Biomedicine (DTU Bioengineering).

The successful applicant will work within the newly established research group 'Glycoengineering' headed by Professor Steffen Goletz, Deputy Head of Department. Our research group focuses on glycoengineering, microbiome-based anti-infectives and biopharmaceuticals, novel glycomic display systems and glycoimmunology. We elucidate complex immunological networks and the role of glycosylation in infectious diseases and tumor biology. The aim is toidentify new drug targets, and to generate novel drug candidates and therapeutic strategies. Responsibilities and tasks The PhD student will work with a team of postdocs and PhD students and in close collaboration with national and international collaborators to establish a high density glyco-mimetic display and screening system for drug delivery. The ideal candidate for this challenging project has skills in protein chemistry (expression and purification), phage display, chemical linkages and organic chemistry, microbiology. Moreover, the PhD student is expected to contribute to inter connective team tasks.

Qualifications Candidates should have a Master’s degree in molecular biomedicine, biochemistry, biotechnology, molecular biology, biology, chemistry, microbiology, or a similar degree. The scholarship for the PhD degree is subject to academic approval, and the candidate will be enrolled in one of the general degree programmes at DTU.
