PhD Researcher / Interpreting at University of Ghent

University of Ghent, Belgium is inviting excellent students to apply for a PhD position. Applications are invited up to March 15, 2019.

The Ghent University Research Centre MULTIPLES seeks to recruit a PhD candidate to work on a project titled “Discrimination-based verbal aggression in interpreter-mediated public service provision in Flanders”. The research is situated in the domain of Interpreting Studies. It investigates how public service interpreters in Flanders handle discrimination-based verbal aggressions in various phases of the assignment (i.e. before, during and after the interpreted encounter).

Data will be collected using ethnographic research methods and include also audio/video recordings of interpreter-mediated interactions.

On the basis of these documents, candidates will be selected for an interview (interviews can be conducted through Skype for applicants living or working abroad).
