International students are invited for a PhD scholarship in bioinformatics at Technical University of Munich. The initial contract for this position is two years. There is no application deadline for this position.

The Department of Cardiovascular Diseases is seeking a Bioinformatics PhD (m/f) – doctoral candidate – Extend our German Heart Center research team and enhance the scientific knowledge in the field of Coronary Artery Disease (CAD). We are part of different consortia with prestigious academic partner sites. Our scientific goal is to improve the understanding of atherosclerosis. Atherosclerosis is the main risk factor for myocardial infarction and stroke. We are looking forward to a responsibly acting person willing to learn and adapt to a highly dynamic and agile research environment.

Bioinformatics PhD (m/f)

- doctoral candidate –

Extend our German Heart Center research team and enhance the scientific knowledge in the field of Coronary Artery Disease (CAD). We are part of different consortia with prestigious academic partner sites. Our scientific goal is to improve the understanding of atherosclerosis. Major Tasks:

- Development and implementation of novel bioinformatics methods

- Programming and analyzing bioinformatics data with basic knowledge in Python, R and Java. Apply analytical and bioinformatics tools

- Integration, transformation and quality control of datasets. Carrying out statistical tests derived from medical, genetic and clinical research

- Learn to analyze different kinds of NGS/OMICs data

- You will work in an international, team-oriented, academically interconnected environment (we offer the opportunity to also learn from our national and international partner sites)

Key requirements:

- Studies of bioinformatics, biosciences, informatics or a comparable discipline

- Interest/knowledge in developing software and using bioinformatics tools, including such for analyzing and interpretation of high throughput data

- Interest/knowledge in data management and in sequencing

- Knowledge in genetics and systems biology is highly appreciated

- Statistical knowledge

- Ability to write and speak English well is a must, knowledge of German would be advantageous
