Senior Postdoc Position in Resilience and Sustainable Development

A position exists for a part-time (60% of FTE) Senior Research Associate in the Department of Engineering, to work on a current project in Resilience and Sustainable Development in emerging countries. The post holder will be located in West Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, UK.

The purpose of the role is to support and maintain the University’s national and international reputation for excellence in teaching and research. Contribution to excellence in research will be at the level of an experienced and skilled researcher demonstrating a high level of competence and an independent standing in research. The role holder may have full operational responsibility for a research project or facility and may hold research grants in his/her own right. Contribution to teaching will include participation in the research group’s teaching programme and the supervision of students. The role holder will participate in the overall contribution of the department/faculty as appropriate.

The Senior Researcher will support and maintain the Resilience and Sustainable Development Programme (RSDP), at the Centre for Industrial Sustainability’s (CIS) national and international reputation as a thought leader. Based in Cambridge, the role holder will be responsible for conducting research, raise funding and coordinate with RSDP’s external stakeholders from the public and private sector. Specifically, they will support RSDP’s contribution to the three research themes: Sustainable Investment, Responsible Innovation and Good Governance. This will include administrative responsibilities, undertaking academic and applied research, delivering key academic outputs and liaising with CIS’s external (finance sector) stakeholders on applied outputs. Responsibilities split between 40% research, 20% dissemination, and 40% project administration.

The RSDP is a multidisciplinary action research programme that applies Socio-Systems Thinking methodologies to define planetary, socio-economic and temporal boundary conditions. RSDP develops and offers diagnostic tools to understand the deeper interrelations, interdependencies and intra-basis for the conditions within the boundary that limit the overall performance of the socio-economic systems.

The skills, qualifications and experience required to perform the role of Senior Research Associate is dependent on having a PhD in a relevant specialist subject, and the candidate must have substantial postdoctoral research experience at the level of Research Associate, or equivalent experience.

Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available until 30 June 2019 in the first instance.
