Senior Lecturer in Psychology Qualitative Research Methods

The Faculty of Social Sciences at Lund University is one of the leading education and research institutions in Sweden and operates both in Lund and Helsingborg.

The Department of Psychology combines education with research and has in recent years been very successful in the competition for external research funds. Central research areas include occupational and organizational psychology, clinical psychology, cognition, neuropsychology, personality and social psychology and developmental psychology.

Many of our courses are developed in connection with research projects, and students are given the opportunity to gain access to current research findings from teachers who themselves are active researchers in their respective areas. Our education environment has long been highly internationalized.


Teaching and assessment primarily in the area of qualitative research methods at undergraduate and Master's level as well as in professional degree programmes and freestanding courses. The teaching is conducted in both Swedish and English. Teaching duties include acting as a course director, course administration, and degree project and doctoral supervision. The duties also include active research in psychology and applying for external research funding, as well as monitoring developments within the area of qualitative research methods and societal developments overall which are relevant to the lecturer's work at the University.


Those qualified for appointment as a senior lecturer are individuals who have been awarded a PhD or have attained equivalent research competence, have demonstrated teaching expertise, have completed at least five weeks of training in teaching and learning in higher education, or have acquired the equivalent knowledge, as well as having the personal attributes necessary to successfully fulfil the requirements of the position. In special circumstances, some of the training in higher education teaching and learning may be conducted during the first year of employment.

Applicants must have a documented ability to teach in Swedish/Scandinavian and English. The individual who commences employment with only one of the two languages must be able to teach in the second language as well within a four year period.

Assessment criteria

In the selection process, equal attention will be given to the assessment of research expertise as to teaching expertise. Administrative skills are also of importance to the position.

Research expertise will be assessed with special emphasis on ongoing research activity as well as the ability to initiate and independently conduct research in the field of psychology. In the assessment of the applicant's research expertise, emphasis will be placed on the quality of research. The scope, breadth and depth of the research will also be taken into account. In addition, the applicant's ability to plan, initiate, manage, and develop research and PhD training, ability to obtain external research funding in competition, as well as a documented ability to interact both within the discipline and with wider society are of importance.

The applicant's teaching expertise is to be well documented in such a way that quality of teaching may be assessed. Of particular relevance for this position is documented experience and qualifications in teaching, supervising, and assessing with a specialisation in qualitative research methods in the field of psychology. In the assessment of teaching expertise, emphasis will be placed on the quality of teaching. The scope, breadth and depth will also be taken into account. In addition, the applicants' ability to plan, initiate, manage and develop teaching, and the ability to link the teaching to research, will be considered. The applicant's ability to interact with stakeholders regarding issues in higher education teaching and learning, both within and outside the University, will be considered in the assessment of teaching expertise.

Administrative expertise is demonstrated through overall planning, operational leadership and staff management skills, as well through the ability to cooperate.

Given that the advertised position involves teaching and assessment within the context of the degree programme in psychology, special consideration will be given to applicants who are registered psychologists.

Personal circumstances of importance (e.g. parental leave) should be reported along with the applicant's qualifications and experience.
