Research Assistant in Fractography of Polymer Composites for Aeroengines

Applications are invited for a postdoctoral fellowship position in polymers to join Imperial College London. Potential candidates should apply before January 06, 2019.

Applications are invited for a Research Assistant/Associate position in fractography of polymer composites for aeroengines. The post is part of a large, multiorganisational project funded by the ATI (Aerospace Technology Institute).

The project relates to the use of carbon fibre composites in the fan blades of future aeroengines, with particular focus on characterising the damage and failure processes in elements and components using fractographic techniques. The research will investigate the influence of environmental factors and simulated impact events on composite components. A particular aim will be to correlate failure processes and modes observed in the coupons with those that occur in aeroengine components tested under realistic conditions. The work will entail close collaboration with the industrial (Rolls Royce) and academic (University of Bristol and Oxford University) partners, including exchange of coupons and test data.
