Research Assistant at University of Cambridge

In 2013, Europe’s top cancer charity, Cancer Research UK, combined with the University of Cambridge to fund the world-class Cancer Research UK Cambridge Institute, situated on the Addenbrooke’s Biomedical Campus in Cambridge. The Cancer Research UK Cambridge Institute is a department of Cambridge University. It has the specific goal to harness the scientific strengths of Cambridge to solve problems encountered with the treatment, diagnosis and prevention of cancer.

Applications are invited for a CRUK-funded Research Assistant position based in the Research Instrumentation and Cell Services core facility (RICS) at the Cancer Research UK Cambridge Institute. RICS is one of 14 core facilities aimed at supporting the research undertaken by 22 world-class research groups at the Institute. The facility provides access and scientific/technical support for a range of state-of-the-art cell/molecular biology equipment and technologies as well as specialised cell services. It also provides access, tracking and storage of cell lines together with routine cell culture quality control testing for all research and core facility groups.

The post holder will be working as part of a small team to contribute to delivery of the high level of service provided by RICS.

In order to provide the services, the role holder will employ a variety of laboratory techniques including cell culture, PCR and ELISA, and will be required to collect, analyse and interpret data. The role holder will be line managed by the Research Instrumentation and Cell Services Senior Scientific Associate.

Applicants should have a BSc/MSc in a relevant field or have equivalent experience of working within a research laboratory, research core, or similar environment. Practical mammalian cell culture experience and good basic laboratory skills are essential. You will be conscientious and have excellent customer service skills, with the ability to interact and liaise with both internal and external personnel. You will be IT literate, have good organisational skills, and have the confidence to take responsibility for the day-to-day running of allocated tasks.

Once an offer of employment has been accepted, the successful candidate will be required to undergo a security check.
