Postgraduate Research Scholarship in Gut Health at The University of Sydney

The University of Sydney is pleased to invite applicants to apply for a PhD position in molecular biology. Successful candidate will have funding to work and study for four years in Australia. Potential candidates should apply before January 11, 2019.

An opportunity is available for an outstanidng PhD scholar to work within the gut microbiome node of The Charles Perkins Centre.

The project lies broadly in the area of gut health and psecifically aims to increase understanding of the potential helath benefits for fermented foods in human nutrition. The successful candidate will apply cutting edge techniques in microbiologu and nutrition to identify mechanisms through which fermented foods can be produced and then effectively incorporated into deits, to improve human health.

This Scholarship is funded by a Gift from The Beauty Chef.

Applicants must have an unconditional offer of admission for full-time studies in a PhD with the Charles Perkins Centre at the University of Sydney and be willing to undertake research in the field of gut health.

Applicants must also hold an Honours degree (First Class or Second Class upper) or a Master’s degree in a related field with a substantial research component, or equivalent.

Applicants must have a background in biology, nutrition, molecular biology, or microbiolody. Applicants must also demonstrate proficiency in (or a strong destire to become proficient in) the application of high throughput techniquest to microbiome analyses in microbial ecology.

Applicants must be able to commence by 31st March 2019.


b. Shortlisted applicants may be requested to attend an interview either in-person or by Skype/telephone.

c. The successful applicant will be awarded the Scholarship on the nomination of the relevant research supervisor(s) at the Charles Perkins Centre at the University of Sydney

a. The Scholarship will provide an annual stipend allowance of $35,000 per annum (fixed rate) for four years, subject to satisfactory academic performance. No extension is possible.

b. Periods of study already undertaken towards the degree prior to the commencement of the Schoalrship will be deducted from the maximum duraiton of the Scholarship.

c. The Scholarship is for commencement in relevant research period in which it is offered. It cannot be deferred or transferred to another area of research without prior approval.

d. No other amount is payable.

e. The Scholarship will be offered subject to the availability of funding.
