Postdoctoral Position at Sasnet at Lund University

The Faculty of Social Sciences at Lund University is one of the leading education and research institutions in Sweden and operates both in Lund and Helsingborg.

SASNET is an interdisciplinary network for the production and dissemination of research, education, and information about South Asia (Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka). SASNET produces and disseminates knowledge and research about South Asia in three principal ways. First, SASNET produces knowledge about South Asia through research, seminars, workshops, and conferences. Second, SASNET supports research, seminars, and international collaborations at Lund University. Third. SASNET collaborates with Swedish and Nordic universities that have a strong focus on South Asia.

In addition, SASNET supports the South Asian Student Association (SASA), which is a platform for educational and cultural exchange between students at Lund University


The position is full-time, divided as follows: 80% will be spent on research directly linked to religion and politics in South Asia, and 20% on teaching and other tasks related to education and administration.

SASNET has a strong ambition to increase cooperation with the Center for Theology and Religious Studies and the Department of Political Science. SASNET is looking for applicants that have a strong focus on both religion and politics in South Asia from an interdisciplinary perspective.

Requirements and assessment

To be appointed as a postdoc you will need to have earned a PhD in the social sciences or other related subject within the past three (3) years at the time of the application deadline (exceptions can be made only under special circumstances). The PhD requirement must be fulfilled at the time of submission of the application.

Applicants will be assessed primarily on their ability to develop and conduct high quality research. Applicants must be able to document research expertise through, for example, the quality of their doctoral thesis and other publications. The applicants must demonstrate expertise in conducting research on South Asia. In addition, applicants teaching skills will be assessed.

- The relevance and strength of the research plan, and its links to the research conducted at the department.

- The quality of the research output, and its links to the department's research.

- Other qualifications proving the applicant's research skills.

- Teaching expertise.

- It is an additional merit if the applicant has worked on external relations and policy issues.


The application must include the following: - Research plan that clearly shows how the research relates to ongoing research at SASNET, maximum 4 pages.

- CV and copies of PhD degree certificate.

- List of publications.

- Up to three (3) representative publications.

- Contact information for three (3) references.

Applications that do not include all five items above will not be considered.


A postdoc fellowship is a career development position specializing in research, and is to be an initial step in the applicant's career following his or her PhD degree. Please note that a person who has previously been employed as a postdoc at Lund University for more than a year cannot be employed as a postdoc again within the same or similar subject at the university.
