Postdoc:peripheral Human-computer Interaction to Support Professional Routines

Eindhoven University of Technology is delighted to offer a postdoctoral researcher position in information systems. Applications will be evaluated on a continuous basis.

Postdoc position in the area of Peripheral Human-Computer Interaction to support professional routines at the Eindhoven University of Technology. We are looking for a fulltime Postdoc in the area of peripheral human-computer interaction (HCI) to support professional routines. The position is available in the Future Everyday group, Industrial Design Department, Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e) in the Netherlands. It is a 2-year position intended to start April 1st 2019 or as soon as possible thereafter.

As a post-doc you will work within a team of researchers / designers / graduate students on the design, prototyping and field-evaluation of interactive systems that support professional target-groups such as teachers and nurses in their complex everyday routines. These interactive systems rely on peripheral interaction: an exciting field within HCI which designs and studies interactions that take place outside the focus of the user's attention, and seamlessly blend into the everyday routine. Core challenges in this field include conceptualizing interactions which are supportive but non-intrusive, and developing suitable methods to empirically evaluate such designs is the real context of use. Specifically, we explore the use of ambient information systems, tangible interaction, implicit interaction and automatic system behavior to provide professionals with effortless access to relevant information and interactions that can fluently blend into their work-routines.

We are looking for candidates who have

A gross monthly salary between 3.173 and 4.166 (on a full-time basis), depending on experience and knowledge; A yearly holiday allowance of 8% of the yearly salary; A yearly end-of-year allowance of 8.3% of the yearly salary; A broad package of fringe benefits (including an excellent technical infrastructure, moving expenses, savings schemes, and excellent sports facilities).
