Postdoc Position in Ultrafast Spectroscopy of Photosynthesis'

Imperial College London has an opening postdoctoral researcher position in life sciences. The funding allows successful candidates to work for 36 months in the first instance. The deadline for applying is February 01, 2019.

Salary range: 37,904 – 45,547 per annum

The Department of Life Sciences was the top ranked university department in the UK for research intensity in Biological Sciences in REF2014 (Times Higher Education), scoring 100% on our environment. Applications are invited for a Research Associate to join Professor van Thor's Molecular Biophysics group in the Department of Life Sciences at Imperial College London. The aim of the project is to perform ultrafast spectroscopy measurements of photosynthesis using multi-pulse approaches. The successful candidate will be involved in all experimental aspects of the project, responsible for configuring, executing and analysing femtosecond laser spectroscopy experiments - To perform research work that fulfils the requirements of the grant objective

- To write of the findings for publication in refereed journals - To contribute to producing independent and original research within the group - To interpret and present research data and results - To ensure the validity and reliability of data at all times - To present findings to colleagues and at conferences.

- A PhD (or equivalent) in Physics, Chemistry or Materials Science. - Experience of ultrafast laser spectroscopy - Experience non-linear optics - Experience with detector systems and electronics - Experience of data acquisition and analysis - Experience with LabView, Matlab, python You must also have: - A proven ability to write and develop scientific research publications - Ability to follow procedures described in the literature or developed locally in a skilled manner - Ability to learn new techniques in a precise and skilled manner - Ability to work in a safe manner with class 4 laser systems, and adhere to safety procedures and documentation - Excellent verbal communication skills and ability to deal with a wide range of people - Excellent written communication skills and the ability to write clearly and succinctly for publication - A high level analytical capability and a creative approach to problem-solving - The ability to work independently and show initiative with research. - The ability to develop and apply new concepts - The ability to prioritise own work in response to deadlines. This is a full time, fixed term position available for up to 36 months based at the South Kensington Campus
