Postdoc Position in Chemical Biology at Imperial College London

Imperial College London has an opening postdoctoral position in biochemistry. The funding allows successful candidates to work for two years in the first instance. This position is closed on February 08, 2019.

We are seeking an outstanding Research Associate in Chemical Biology to contribute to a Wellcome Trust and Royal Society funded project in the Barnard group in the Department of Chemistry based on the development of novel inhibitors of bacterial proteins, in collaboration with the lab of Dr Sophie Helaine in the Department of Medicine.

The project is funded for a period of two years, with a possible one-year extension. This project will involve the development of methods for the expression of protein partners of therapeutically relevant protein-protein interactions and the establishment of reliable assays for the characterisation of the binding of inhibitors targeting these interactions. The results from this work will be coupled to the design and synthesis of novel peptide-based inhibitors in parallel. The successful candidate will be expected to take a leading role in inhibitor design and the optimisation of their biophysical characterisation alongside coordinating collaborative aspects of the project. - Develop new methods and techniques for the analysis of protein targeting.

- Design, synthesis and purification of peptide libraries. - Express and purify target bacterial proteins - Effectively plan and execute the research project and assist in the coordination and establishment of collaborations. - Ensure effective decision making with regards to the research project and the management of the laboratory. - Manage and maintain key pieces of equipment. - Collect and analyse high quality reproducible and accurate publishable research data. - Maintain accurate and thorough records of experimental results. - Produce regular internal reports both written and oral. - Prepare a final report for submission to the research grant provider. - Attend relevant conferences and workshops - Present research data both internally and externally in either oral or poster formats. - Contribute to written drafts for publications and prepare their submission to scientific journals. - Provide guidance and support to other members of the research team, including supervision of postgraduate and/or undergraduate projects. PhD in Chemical Biology or Biochemistry, or a related subject area

Previous Postdoctoral experence Strong track record in chemical biology or biochemistry, demonstrated by a good publication record in international journals Experience in protein expression and purification Experience in peptide synthesis Closing Date: 08/02/2019
