Postdoc Position Epidemiologist in Global Health

University of Cambridge, UK is inviting applicants to apply for a postdoc position in public health. The funding allows successful candidate to work for two years. Applications should be sent before January 17, 2019.

We are seeking to appoint a research associate to provide leadership and management of an ambitious programme of research in the field of population health, genomics and diversity in sub-Saharan Africa. The post-holder will work within the Global Health and Populations Research Group, co-located between the University of Cambridge and the Wellcome Sanger Institute, led by Dr Manjinder Sandhu.

Specifically, the applicant will lead a suite of field studies in sub-Saharan Africa, to investigate the burden of chronic disease and to collect biological samples from diverse and remote populations. The post will involve close working with international collaborators, as well as with research staff at the field study site; a significant proportion of the post will involve travelling to the field sites.

The successful candidate will also contribute to other global health research projects within the group as required; help to develop scientific goals for related projects and coordinate activities and interact with other members of the group so that goals are met; contribute to publications or disseminate research findings; have oversight of relevant grant budgets.

We are looking for an individual who will be a flexible team player with good communication and organisational skills. They will be able to prioritise their own workload and work to tight deadlines. Excellent computer skills are essential.

A background in epidemiology, public health or a numerate discipline, and previous experience of epidemiological study design and management are essential. Previous experience of managing epidemiological studies is essential; experience of such work in Africa is desirable. Extensive interaction with external collaborators is expected; previous experience of this would be an advantage.

Although this post is advertised as 0.5 FTE, we can consider candidates who can work up to 25 hours per week.

The funds for this post are available for one year in the first instance.
