Imperial College London, UK has an opening postdoctoral position in mathematics. The funding allows successful candidate to work for 36 months. Applications should be sent before January 07, 2019.

Applications are invited for a Research Associate position in the Department of Mathematics at Imperial College London to work in the area of p-adic arithmetic geometry and the Langlands program. The position is funded through an ERC grant held by Dr Ana Caraiani and the post holder will work directly with Dr Caraiani.

The post holder will work on a problem related to p-adic arithmetic geometry and the Langlands program. While the concrete problem will be determined after discussion with the successful candidate, it is likely to be related to the geometry and cohomology of Shimura varieties, or of more general locally symmetric spaces, and/or with the p-adic Langlands program.

The post holder is also expected to contribute to the academic life of Dr Caraiani's research group and the wider number theory group at Imperial, in particular to interact scientifically with other research staff and students, as well as organise and participate in seminars.

- A PhD (or equivalent) in Mathematics - Strong background in arithmetic geometry - Strong background in the Langlands program - Experience with Shimura varieties or more general locally symmetric spaces and their local analogues and/or with the local and global p-adic Langlands program, including p-adic automorphic forms - Clear evidence of outstanding promise and originality in research, with a good publication record, commensurate with career stage - The ability to identify, develop and apply new concepts, techniques and methods Excellent written communication skills and the ability to write clearly and succinctly for publication - The ability to work and communicate effectively as part of a team The position is fixed term for 36 months, with the possibility of extension for further 12 months. The expected start date is 1 September 2019.
