Postdoc in Computational Genomics for Genomics of Antibiotics Producers

Applicants are invited to apply for a postdoctoral position in computational biology at Technical University of Denmark, Denmark. The funds for this fellowship are available for 2 years. Candidates are welcome before January 01, 2019.

The New Bioactive Compound section of DTU Biosustain is dedicated to finding the next generation of antimicrobial lead compounds by integrating innovative screening approaches, computational biology and metabolic engineering. Within the Novo Nordisk Foundation funded Challenge Grant project "Integration of Informatics and Metabolic Engineering for the discovery of Novel Antibiotics (IIMENA) we are currently setting up a streamline pipeline in collaboration with international partner institutions from Spain and South Korea.

Within the IIMENA project, we will identify a huge number of actinomycetes producing bioactive compounds against our panel of clinical test organisms. Many of these strains will be sequenced and subjected to genome mining for the biosynthetic gene clusters encoding the production of the bioactive compounds. In order to reach this ambitious goal, we are searching for an excellent postdoctoral scientist to develop and implement computational tools and workflows to rapidly identify and characterize biosynthetic pathways for secondary metabolites and their bioactivities as a basis for further engineering of the biosynthetic pathways.

Within the project, you will be responsible for

The position is fully integrated into the interdisciplinary NBC research team consisting of Chemists, Microbiologists and Computational Biologists. You will work in close collaboration with the other iimena project scientists, members of the NBC section, colleagues at DTU Biosustain and other DTU departments/centers, such as the Center for Microbial Secondary Metabolits (CeMiSt).

Candidates should have a PhD degree in bioinformatics, microbiology, biotechnology or equivalent field.

For carrying out the project, we expect you to have

Furthermore, knowledge and previous experience in microbial natural products biosynthesis, actinomycete biology or genetic / metabolic engineering and general lab-experience are highly advantageous.

As our future co-worker, you enjoy working on complex topics and bring

Our team language is English, therefore excellent English skills for working in a highly international research environment are required.

DTU is a leading technical university globally recognized for the excellence of its research, education, innovation and scientific advice. We offer a rewarding and challenging job in an international environment. We strive for academic excellence in an environment characterized by collegial respect and academic freedom tempered by responsibility.

The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. The allowance will be agreed upon with the relevant union.

Workplace is The Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Biosustainability at DTU main campus in Kgs.

The period of employment is 2 years; the position is available immediately
