PhD Scholarship Position at Technical University of Munich

Technical University of Munich, Germany is inviting excellent students to apply for a PhD position in electrochemistry. This position is open until filled.

Proton exchange membrane fuel cells (PEMFC), which efficiently convert renewable hydrogen to electric power, are expected to play a major role in a future decarbonized energy system, in particular in the transport sector. One of the main challenges for commercialization is the reduction of the platinum loading in the catalyst layers that makes about 50% of stack cost in high volume production scenarios. It is the overall goal of this project to develop porous layers in PEMFC with drastically reduced transport losses in the gas and ionomer phases and thus to push the PEM-technology to its full potential. This is achieved through materials development and porous layer design guided by advanced diagnostics and characterization in collaboration with three international research institutes.
