PhD Scholarship in Micro and Nanotechnology for 3D Laser Micromachining

Applicants are invited to apply for a PhD position in mechanical engineering at KTH Royal Institute of Technology. Successful candidate will have funding to work and study for two years in Sweden. Eligible candidates should submit the applications before January 09, 2019.

KTH Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm has grown to become one of Europe's leading technical and engineering universities, as well as a key centre of intellectual talent and innovation. We are Sweden's largest technical research and learning institution and home to students, researchers and faculty from around the world. Our research and education covers a wide area including natural sciences and all branches of engineering, as well as architecture, industrial management, urban planning, history and philosophy.

Femotosecond Laser 3D Micromachining for Next Generation Micro and Nanosystems

In this project we adress several research challenges in femtosecond laser micromachining, including femtosecond laser ablation and surface structuring for novel micro- and nanodevices, femtosecond laser-based 3D printing of micro and nanostructures made of different materials such as polymers, glass and hydrogels, and high-speed laser processing using spatial light modulators (SLMs), where we are exploring a new concept for a high-throughput ultrashort pulse laser processing system. The project involves both theoretical and experimental tasks. The experimental work will be conducted in the KTH laser lab and the KTH micro and nano fabrication cleanroom in Stockholm (Kista). The project engages several fellow PhD students at the Department of Micro and Nanosystems and is conducted in close cooperation with high-profile industrial partners and other research groups from inside and outside of KTH.

In order to succeed as an doctoral student at KTH you need to be goal oriented and persevering in your work.

The successful applicant is expected to hold a M.Sc. degree in engineering physics, electrical engineering, materials science, mechanical engineering, or a corresponding degree from a major university. A specialization in micro and nanosystems is an asset.

We are looking for a strongly motivated person, with excellent command of English orally and in writingas well as an excellent academic track record.

Only those who are or have been admitted to third-cycle studies may be employed as a doctoral student. The term of the initial contract may not exceed one year and may thereafter be extended. Doctoral students may engage in teaching, research, and administration corresponding to a maximum of 20 % of a full-time position.

Apply for the position and admission through KTH’s recruitment system. It is the applicant's responsibility to ensure that the application is complete in accordance with the instructions in the advertisement.
