PhD Scholarship in Fibre and Polymer Technology at KTH Royal Institute of Technology

A fully-funded PhD fellowship in polymers is available at KTH Royal Institute of Technology. The funds for this fellowship are available for two years. Eligible candidates should submit the applications before January 16, 2019.

KTH Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm has grown to become one of Europe's leading technical and engineering universities, as well as a key centre of intellectual talent and innovation. We are Sweden's largest technical research and learning institution and home to students, researchers and faculty from around the world. Our research and education covers a wide area including natural sciences and all branches of engineering, as well as architecture, industrial management, urban planning, history and philosophy.

The Division of Wood Chemistry and Pulp Technology at KTH Fibre and Polymer Technology announces a licentiate position in co-operation with StoraEnso. The aim of this licentiate project is to describe, quantify and propose a measure to decrease the detrimental effects of calcium ions during chemical pulping of wood.

This include the physical and chemical state of the original calcium in wood and the reactions of calcium and lignin during Kraft cooking. When these reactions are known, different ways to facilitate the delignification and improve yield/increase production and decrease the need of cooking chemicals should be evaluated.Main Supervisor at KTH will be Prof Mikael Lindstrm. The work will be performed in close co-operation with persons from the Industry.
