PhD Position Knowledge Diffusion in The Patent System Via Big Data Analysis

Eindhoven University of Technology is delighted to offer a PhD position in information systems. Successful candidate will have funding to work and study for four years in Netherlands. Applications should be submitted as soon as possible.

The Department of Industrial Engineering and Innovation Sciences (IE&IS) of the Eindhoven University of Technology is opening a 4-year, fully funded Ph.D. position. The position is designed to foster research on the project “Understanding, analysing and guiding knowledge diffusion through the patent system.”

A claimed benefit of the patent system is to encourage knowledge dissemination through the disclosure of the technical details of the invention in the patent application. However, the empirical evidence on the actual benefits of disclosure is inconclusive. By means of a novel empirical approach using big data, the project aims to improve our understanding of the role of disclosure in the patent system.

You, as a successful applicant, will conduct world-class research within the project through empirical analyses that combine state-of-the-art econometrics, big data, and network analysis techniques. You will present the results of the research in a Ph.D. dissertation, to be completed within four years. A small teaching load is part of the job.
