Clinical Senior Lecturer/reader/chair of Infectious Diseases

Imperial College is recruiting to build on its major strengths in Infectious Diseases with a further strategic investment. Applications are invited for Clinical Senior Lecturer, Clinical Reader or Clinical Professor of Infectious Diseases within theDivision of Infectious Diseases, in the Department of Medicine. These academic appointments will extend and complement our existing research, and provide opportunities to collaborate with Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust.

You will be expected to add to the reputation of Imperial College by conducting internationally competitive research, enhancing the delivery and quality of teaching, contributing to the financial viability of the Division, and supporting good governance. You will bring enthusiasm to the Division, enhance the intellectual community, and support strong collaborations across London.

We wish to appoint two or more clinical academics who are seeking to contribute between 5 and 8 PAs to academic research activity, and 2 to 5 PAs as a consultant physician providing care for patients of specialist infection services. A formal job plan defining PA allocations will be agreed between the post holder, the Head of Department and Directorate Clinical Director during the recruitment process and will be reviewed annually thereafter.

Central to the recruitment of one of these posts is to fill a vacancy in the Academic Clinical Infectious Diseases team at the Hammersmith Hospital campus, which offers a minimum of 3 months/year (non-consecutive) clinical infectious disease service. More information is given in Section 3.2 of the job description and applicants are asked to highlight their interest in this specific post in their personal statement.

To excel in these roles you will be developing, or depending on the level, you will have a national and/or an international reputation with a record of excellent research in infectious diseases. You will also have a proven track record of grant awards and publications, commensurate with the level of appointment. You will have full GMC registration with a licence to practice, hold a CCT in Infectious Diseases or Combined Infection and hold Membership of the Royal College of Physicians (MRCP) or equivalent. You must also have a Further Higher Degree – MD or PhD in a relevant field.

There is flexibility in the split between clinical duties and academic with a minimum requirement of 50% academic activity per week. You will have experience of training undergraduate and postgraduate students and experience of supervising junior medical and research staff. Evidence of management and administration experience is desirable.
