Verifiable Secret Sharing on The Red Belly Blockchain Postgraduate Research Scholarship

The University of Sydney, Australia has an opening PhD position in computer science. Successful candidate will have funding to work and study for three years in Australia. Applicants should apply before December 12, 2018.

An opportunity is available for an outstanding or PhD scholar in the area of verifiable secret sharing on the red belly blockchain. The Red Belly Blockchain is a new secure blockchain developed at the University of Sydney that tolerates t failures out of n>3t machines.

The goal of this research is to leverage the inherent distributed nature of the blockchain to develop a secure and private recovery service for sensitive information, like private keys.

Applicants must have an unconditional offer of admission for full-time studies in a PhD within the School of Computer Science, Faculty of Engineering and IT at the University of Sydney, and be willing to undertake research in the field of design of statistical inference algorithms.

Applicants must also hold a bachelor's degree or a Master's degree in Engineering, Science or a related field. Preference will be given to applicant whose average mark is 85 or above.

Applicants must also demonstrate a strong background and knowledge in programming skills. Applicants must also demonstrate experience with distributed computing.

The successful applicant will be awarded the Scholarship on the nomination of the relevant research supervisor(s) in the School of Computer Science.

The Scholarship will provide an annual stipend allowance equivalent to the minimum RTP rate (indexed to the RTP rate on January One each year) for up to three years, subject to satisfactory academic performance. The recipient may apply for an extension of up to 6 months.

Academic course fees are also provided for a successful international applicant, for 12 research periods. The recipient may apply for an extension of up to 2 research periods.

Periods of study already undertaken towards the degree prior to the commencement of the Scholarship will be deducted from the maximum duration of the Scholarship excluding the potential extension period.

The Scholarship is for commencement in relevant research period in which it is offered. It cannot be deferred or transferred to another area of research without prior approval.

No other amount is payable. The Scholarship will be offered subject to the availability of funding.

Progression is subject to passing the annual progress review.
