University Lecturer at University of Cambridge

University of Cambridge, UK is inviting applicants to apply for a lecturer position in pharmacology. The initial contract for this position is five years and posible to extend. Eligible candidates should submit the applications before January 31, 2019.

Applications are invited for a University Lectureship in the Department of Pharmacology with effect from 1 June 2019, or as soon as possible thereafter. Based in central Cambridge, the Department offers excellent facilities for teaching and research, and has particular interests in cell signalling, cancer, pain, macromolecular structure, neuropharmacology and vascular pharmacology. We are seeking to recruit within the broad field of pharmacology, and particularly in the fields of inflammation, immunity and cardiovascular pharmacology.

The key duties and responsibilities will include but not be limited to: mentoring and giving lectures and seminars to undergraduate/graduate students (including marking their work), taking an active part in examinations, carrying out innovative research and writing papers on topics relevant to the specialist subject area (this will include journals, books and other material), identifying funding opportunities within the area of research and submitting research grant applications. The successful applicant will have a PhD in a relevant specialist subject area and be developing a bibliography of research publications. They will keep abreast of the latest thinking in their specialist subject area by reading other academic material, attending conferences and active discussions with other academics in the field. The successful candidate will also have a strong track record in teaching at a higher education institution.

Appointments will be made at University Lecturer level with a probationary period of five years. Appointment to retiring age thereafter is subject to satisfactory progress. The starting salary, depending upon experience, will be in the region of 40,792 pa. Once an offer of employment has been accepted, the successful candidate will be required to undergo a basic disclosure, a security check and a health assessment. Whether the outcome is satisfactory will be determined by the University.
