Research Assistant in Resources Development at University of Cambridge

A position exists for a part-time Research Assistant in the Department of Engineering to work as a Resources Developer in prototyping and production.

The post holder will be located in Central Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, UK.

The key responsibilities and duties are contribution to the overall tools and resources development; production of rapid prototypes as part of the development process including the development of final production ready versions; production preparation, planning, delivery, management and tracking; and formative and summative review of resources through the development process and as part of the final ‘sign off’ prior to production.

The essential skills, qualifications and experience required to perform the role are a first degree in any subject. Knowledge of rapid prototyping tools and techniques such as laser cutters and 3D printers. Basic knowledge of hardware development including case design and electronics design. Software and database development in widely used languages. Ability to engage with technical and commercial requirements and working to tight deadlines with minimum supervision. Experience of low volume production of devices that have been prototyped; and of reviewing resources, including written/graphics, prior to production. The Engineering Design Centre is a dynamic and growing environment. It is essential that the candidate can work under their own initiative but in line with the objectives and principles of the programmes of work.

Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available for 3 months in the first instance.
