Postdoc Position/senior Postdoc Position* in Evidence Synthesis

University of Cambridge, UK is offering postdoctoral scholar position. The funding allows successful candidates to work for 3 years in the first instance. Applications should be sent before January 01, 2019.

The newly established The Healthcare Improvement Studies Institute (THIS Institute) seeks to appoint a Research Associate/Senior Research Associate* in Evidence Synthesis.

At THIS Institute we aim to create a world-leading scientific asset for the NHS by strengthening the evidence-base for improving the quality and safety of healthcare. Co-created by two exceptional organisations – the University of Cambridge and the Health Foundation – THIS Institute is founded on the guiding principle that efforts to improve care should be based on the highest quality evidence. The institute hosts around 35 staff and has strong links across University of Cambridge departments and with RAND Europe, a not-for-profit Cambridge-based research organisation, and with Homerton College, Cambridge, as well as with multiple external partners.

We seek a specialist in evidence synthesis to join our multi-disciplinary team. The successful candidate will enjoy a varied work portfolio, contributing to the design and conduct of complex mixed studies reviews on the quality and safety of healthcare, as well as methodological developments in this area (including approaches to evidence synthesis of quantitative and qualitative studies, and crowd sourcing of mixed studies reviews). This post is a key appointment to our systematic review programme, and will work closely with our embedded librarian and our research team in the development and delivery of this work.

The appointee will be based in the THIS Institute, supervised by Dr Jenni Burt (Senior Social Scientist). The successful candidate will also be expected to work closely with THIS Institute partners and collaborators, notably RAND Europe and Cochrane Crowd.

The post holder will be educated to PhD level in a field relevant to applied health services research and/or evidence synthesis or have equivalent experience. The post is ideally suited to someone with prior experience of undertaking complex mixed studies reviews, involving the extraction and synthesis of both quantitative and qualitative data. The post holder should have a systematic and rigorous approach to work with excellent organisational, communication and interpersonal skills, and an in depth understanding of the conduct of rigorous systematic reviews.

*NB: The status of Senior Research Associate is awarded on the basis of individual merit and may be awarded to the successful candidate if approved by the Faculty Board of the Cambridge School of Clinical Medicine

The position is full time and we do welcome applications from individuals who wish to be considered for part-time working of no less than 60% FTE.

The funds for this post are available for 3 years from commencement in post.

The post holder will be based at THIS Institute (The Healthcare Improvement Studies Institute), University of Cambridge, Cambridge Biomedical Campus, Clifford Allbutt Building, Cambridge CB2 0AH (approx 2 miles south of city centre)
