Postdoc Position in Mathematics at Lund University

A new opening postdoctoral fellowship position in environmental sciences is available at Lund University, Sweden. Successful candidate will have funding to work and study for 2 years in Sweden. Applications should be sent before December 31, 2018.

The Faculty of Science conducts research and education within Biology, Astronomy, Physics, Geosciences, Chemistry, Mathematics and Environmental Sciences. The Faculty is organized into nine departments, gathered in the northern campus area. The Faculty has approximately 1500 students, 330 PhD students and 700 employees.

The research will focus on nonlinear partial differential equations. The position is funded by the European Research Council through the project 3DWATERWAVES, which concerns mathematical models for water waves and stationary ideal flows with vorticity in three dimensions. The main research task is to analyse these models using methods from nonlinear functional analysis (local and global bifurcation theory, spectral theory, variational methods, Nash-Moser iteration).

Appointment to a post-doctoral position requires that the applicant has a PhD, or an international degree deemed equivalent to a PhD, within the subject of the position, completed no more than three years before the last date for applications. Under special circumstances, the doctoral degree can have been completed earlier.

This is a career development position primarily focused on research. The position is intended as an initial step in a career, and the assessment will primarily be based on your research qualifications and potential as researchers. Particular emphasis will be placed on research skills within the subject. Here the quality of your publications plays a very big role, but the description of your previous research and future research plans is also important. At a possible interview, your ability to orally present your research will be tested. In addition, the assessment will be based on the qualifications mentioned above.

This is a full-time, fixed-term employment of a maximum of 2 years. The period of employment is determined in accordance with the agreement "Avtal om tidsbegrnsad anstllning som postdoktor" ("Agreement on fixed-term employment as a post-doctoral fellow") between Lund University, SACO-S, OFR/S and SEKO, dated 4 September 2008.

Apply online! Applications must contain a letter in which you describe your previous research, future research plans and interest in the position (max 3 pages). Applications must also include a CV, list of publications, contact details of at least two references, copy of your doctoral degree certificate and other certificates/grades that you wish to be considered. You are encouraged to attach an electronic copy of your PhD thesis if possible. All documents must be in PDF format.
