Postdoc Position in Algebraic Geometry at Imperial College London

Applications are invited for a postdoctoral researcher position in mathematics to join Imperial College London. The initial contract for this position is 24 months and posible to extend. Applicants should apply before January 02, 2019.

Applications are invited for a 24-month Research Fellow position (with possible extension to 30 September 2021) in the Department of Mathematics, University of Warwick. The position is funded by an EPSRC Programme Grant held by Professor Alessio Corti and Professor Tom Coates (Imperial College London), Professor Miles Reid (University of Warwick) and Professor Mark Gross (University of Cambridge).

The aim of this research project is to apply the ideas and methods of the Fano/LG correspondence to construction problems in algebraic geometry. The exact project will depend on the experience, strengths and tastes of the successful applicant. This project would involve a high degree of teamwork and interdisciplinary research.

PhD or equivalent in a subject close to algebraic geometry Demonstrable track record in algebraic geometry or a related discipline Experience of one or, preferably, more of the following areas: explicit constructions in algebraic geometry; toric or tropical geometry; mirror symmetry (including the Gross-Siebert program; with a commitment to conduct research related to the program Evidence of promise and originality in research and have a good publication record High degree of self-motivation and independence Ability to develop and apply new concepts Creative approach to problem-solving Excellent written communication skills and the ability to write clearly and succinctly for publication This is a fixed term position for 24 months to start as soon as possible.
