Postdoc Position at University of Cambridge

University of Cambridge is pleased to invite applicants to apply for a new opening postdoc position in biochemistry. This fellowship is last for two years and posible to extend. Eligible candidates should submit the applications before December 27, 2018.

Applications are invited for a Research Associate position to be based in the University of Cambridge, Department of Biochemistry, central Cambridge, working in the laboratory of Prof. Jussi Taipale. The group includes both experimental biologists and computer scientists.

The laboratory focuses on the study of transcriptional control of cell growth, using functional genomics and systems biology, and mouse genetic models. Current lines of work include high-throughput determination of binding sites and binding specificities of human transcription factors, and using this information to identify regulatory elements that control cell growth during normal development or in cancer (see, for example Hallikas et al., Cell 124:47-59, 2006; Sur et al., Science 338:1360-1363, 2012; Jolma et al., Cell 152:327-339, 2013; Jolma et al., Nature 527:384-388, 2015; Yin et al., Science 356, eaaj2239, 2017, Zhu et al., Nature 562:76-81).

The project studies mechanisms of cancer cell proliferation. Due to the translational nature of the project, a medical background (MD-PhD) with strong molecular and cell biology experience is preferred. The successful candidate should have knowledge of phosphorylation signaling, targeted cancer therapies, and kinase inhibitor resistance mechanisms. We are also looking for demonstrated experience in LC-MS based phosphoproteomics methods, high throughput screening assays (especially transcription factor binding assays) and data analysis as well as experience in targeted genome editing with CRISPR.

Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available for 1 year in the first instance.

The position is available from 1 January 2019.

Informal enquiries can be made by contacting Dr Minna Taipale at; further information on the Taipale lab can be obtained at
