Postdoc Position at Imperial College London

Imperial College London has an opening postdoctoral position in computer science. This fellowship is last for 36 months and posible to extend. Applications are welcome before December 13, 2018.

Full time, fixed term appointment to start on 1st January 2019 or as soon as possible thereafter, for up to 36 months

The Department of Computing is a leading department of Computer Science among UK Universities, and has consistently been awarded the highest research rating from the Higher Education Funding Council. In the 2014 REF assessment, the Department was ranked third (1st in the Research Intensity table published by The Times Higher), and was rated as “Excellent” in the previous national assessment of teaching quality.

We have a vacancy for a Research Associate to work on an EPSRC funded project involving the development of a semi-autonomous robot synthetic biologist.

The post is to investigate the development and testing of algorithms of probabilistic logic-based Machine Learning algorithms aimed at providing optimal solutions to complex biological design problems. The aim will be to apply such algorithms to biosynthetic pathway design. Results will be benchmarked against full factorial, statistical and random approaches to the same design space to validate real world gains in terms of cost and time. Once established, the workflow will be applied to an ambitious biosynthetic pathway that would not be tractable using non-directed design methods.

- A Ph.D. (or equivalent) in a topic closely related to the research.

- Experience in applied Machine Learning

- Knowledge of Computational Logic and Statistics

- A proven research record and publications in the relevant areas.

- Excellent written and verbal communication skills

*Candidates who have not yet been officially awarded their PhD will be appointed as Research Assistant within the salary range 33,380 to 35,061 per annum.
