PhD Studentship for Peter Oliver and The Miniature in Stuart England

Applications are invited for an AHRC CDA doctoral studentship offered by the Open-Oxford-Cambridge AHRC Doctoral Training Partnership. The successful applicant will work under the supervision of Dr Alexander Marr (ajm300@hermes.cam.ac.uk) on a collaborative project co-led by the Department of History of Art and the National Portrait Gallery.

The studentship will aims, for the first time, to study Peter Oliver in detail and in context. It has three main components: a catalogue raisone of his miniatures and drawings; an investigation of his technique, which will be undertaken in collaboration with conservators at the Hamilton Kerr Institute (Cambridge) and the conservation department of the National Portrait Gallery; and the reconstruction of Oliver’s biography and an analysis of his work in context.

Funding: Full DTP studentships, for candidates who meet the AHRC residency requirements, will provide an annual maintenance grant to cover living costs (14,777 pa at current rates) and will fully cover university tuition fees.

Fees-only studentships are available for applicants ordinarily resident in an EU country other than the UK, but applicants can also apply for maintenance grant funding from other sources. For more details, see: https://www.graduate.study.cam.ac.uk/finance/funding.
