PhD in Experimental Cardiovascular Research at Lund University

Lund University, Sweden is inviting applicants to apply for a PhD position in marketing. Successful candidate will have funding to work and study for four years in Sweden. Applications should be sent before December 14, 2018.

The Faculty of Medicine is a part of Lund University, and is responsible for education and research within medicine and healthcare. Our academic programs are closely linked with the healthcare system and are firmly anchored in the faculty's strong research tradition. Our research spans a broad field within experimental preclinical research, near-patient clinical research and health sciences research. The Faculty of Medicine, with its 1,800 employees and 2,700 students in Lund and Malm, is a knowledge-intensive meeting place for students, teachers and researchers from all over the world.

The doctoral (PhD) studentship is placed at Cardiovascular Research - matrix and inflammation in atherosclerosis with labs at the Clinical Research Centre (CRC), a dynamic and inspiring research environment at the Skne University Hospital Malm Campus. The research group collaborates closely with scientists and research groups in experimental and clinical cardiovascular research and diabetes research.

We are looking for a curious, goal-oriented, organized and dedicated individual who wants to train to become a research scientist. The applicant should have a scientifically, medically or biomedically oriented university education.

The doctoral studentship will involve studies of the role of extracellular matrix proteins in atherosclerotic plaque development, plaque inflammation, and plaque stability. The doctoral studentship may involve cell culture, immunohistochemistry, gene expression analysis, ELISA, tissue sampling, flow cytometry, statistics, data analysis and more. The project may also involve statistical analysis in clinical patient materials.


Students with basic eligibility for third-cycle studies are those who- have completed a second-cycle degree- have completed courses of at least 240 credits, of which at least 60 credits are from second-cycle courses, or- have acquired largely equivalent knowledge in some other way, in Sweden or abroad.

The employment of doctoral students is regulated in the Swedish Code of Statues 1998: 80. Only those who are or have been admitted to PhD-studies may be appointed to doctoral studentships. When an appointment to a doctoral studentship is made, the ability of the student to benefit from PhD-studies shall primarily be taken into account. In addition to devoting themselves to their studies, those appointed to doctoral studentships may be required to work with educational tasks, research and administration, in accordance with specific regulations in the ordinance.

In order to assess the ability of the applicant to benefit from and to assimilate the doctoral education, academic and practical skills and the ability of the applicant to cooperate, work independently, express themselves in speech and writing, performing calculations, organize and plan, as well as personal qualities such as curiosity, commitment, motivation, focus, drive, scientific principles, values, confidence in their own ability and common sense will be taken into account.
