Multi-objective Optimisation of Infrastructure Investment Decisions Postgraduate Research Scholarship

Applicants are invited to apply for a PhD position in artificial intelligence at The University of Sydney. This position is available for three years. Eligible candidates should submit the applications before January 09, 2019.

An opportunity is available for an outstanding PhD scholar in the area of Multi-objective optimisation of infrastructure investment decisions.

The proposed project aims at developing computational frameworks to assist decision makers in prioritising infrastructure investment decisions over multiple periods by considering sustainability objectives. The latter include financial, environmental and social objectives, which will be mathematically formatted by considering the practical constraints. The recent developments in city information modelling, artificial intelligence and optimisation techniques will be investigating to solve the formulated problem.

Applicants must have an unconditional offer of admission for full-time studies in a PhD within the School of Civil Engineering at the University of Sydney, and be willing to undertake research in the field of multi-objective optimization of infrastructure investment decisions.

Applicants must also hold a Bachelor's or a Master’s degree in Engineering, Science or a related field.

The successful applicant will be awarded the Scholarship on the nomination of the relevant research supervisor(s) in the School of Civil Engineering, Faculty of Engineering and IT at the University of Sydney.

The Scholarship will provide an annual stipend allowance equivalent to the minimum RTP rate (indexed to the RTP rate on January One each year) for up to three years, subject to satisfactory academic performance. The recipient may apply for an extension of up to 6 months.

Academic course fees are also provided for a successful international applicant, for 12 research periods. The recipient may apply for an extension of up to 2 research periods.

Periods of study already undertaken towards the degree prior to the commencement of the Scholarship will be deducted from the maximum duration of the Scholarship excluding the potential extension period.

The Scholarship is for commencement in relevant research period in which it is offered. It cannot be deferred or transferred to another area of research without prior approval.

No other amount is payable. The Scholarship will be offered subject to the availability of funding.

Progression is subject to passing the annual progress review.
