Arc Ittc Food Safety in Fresh Produce PhD Scholarship

A new PhD position is available at The University of Sydney. The initial contract for this position is 12 months. Applications should be sent before December 17, 2018.

The Australian Research Council (ARC) Industrial Transformation Training Centre (ITTC) for Food Safety in the Fresh Produce Industry openned at the University of Sydney in January 2017. The overarching purpose of the Centre is to conduct industry-focused research to develop practical solutions to prevent or minimise food safety risks in fresh produce across the value chain. The Centre will create strong collaborations between food safety researchers, industry personnel and training organisations. A key role of the Centre is to train the next generation of food safety scientists with expertise and industry background to support food safety research beyond the life of this project.

The Centre consists of 21 Industry and Research Partners from Australia, New Zealand and the US. The Centre is offering one full time ARC ITTC Scholarships for an applicant intending to commence in 2018. Projects are in the following research areas: microbial and protozoan contamination in soil and water, risk modelling, pre and postharvest sanitisers, pathogen management in storage and transport, identification of new indicator organisms and development of rapid diagnostics. Successful applicants will be expected to gain industry experience of up to 12 months through placement with industry partners.

Applicants must have an unconditional offer of admission for full-time studies in a PhD within the Sydney Institute of Agriculture at the University of Sydney, and be willing to undertake research in the field of food safety.

Scholarships are awarded for up to a maximum of three and a half years, subject to the continued outstanding performance in research and to availability of funds

Stipend is $31,298 pa
