Research Fellow Computational Materials Physics / Condensed Matter Physics

Monash University, Australia is inviting applicants to apply for a postdoctoral scholar position in condensed matter physics. Citizens of any country are eligible to apply before the deadline: December 05, 2018.

Everyone needs a platform to launch a satisfying career. At Monash, we give you the space and support to take your career in all kinds of exciting new directions. You'll have access to quality research, infrastructure and learning facilities, opportunities to collaborate internationally, as well as the grants you'll need to publish your work. We're a university full of energetic and enthusiastic minds, driven to challenge what's expected, expand what we know, and learn from other inspiring, empowering thinkers.

The ARC Centre of Excellence in Future Low-Energy Electronics Technologies (FLEET) is an international innovator in novel electronics technologies. The centre brings together more than 40 world-leading experts who will apply cutting edge science to develop a new generation of ultra-low power electronic devices.

We are seeking an outstanding Research Fellow to join our FLEET team to conduct research in modelling the electronic properties of atomically thin topological insulator materials. This research is expected to involve first principles density functional theory simulations, which will be carried out on the high-performance computing facilities, as well as theoretical/analytical modelling of the electronic transport.

As the successful candidate, you will be expected to publish papers in high-impact journals, present results at major conferences and workshops, and to assist in the supervision of PhD and honours students in the centre. The appointment will be made at a level appropriate to your qualifications, experience and in accordance with classification standards for each level.

The successful applicant must hold a PhD in Condensed Matter Physics, Materials Physics or related fields in Physics, Materials Science, or Electrical & Electronics Engineering. Our ideal candidate will have excellent communication skills with a demonstrated ability to produce presentations and refereed research papers and reports.

In addition to Monash University’s attractive remuneration and benefits, the department and faculty provide generous research support, including: early career mentoring; funded PhD scholarships; grant-writing support; access to seed-funding grants, including interdisciplinary research opportunities; and support for innovation in education and curriculum design.

If you are driven by new developments in optical physics, want to perform high impact research and build the future of electronics, we encourage you to apply. For more information about FLEET and what we do, please visit our website: fleet.org.au

This role is a full-time position; however, flexible working arrangements may be negotiated. Appointment will be made at a level appropriate to the successful applicant’s qualifications, experience and in accordance with classification standards for each level.

Your application must address the selection criteria. Please refer to“How to apply for Monash Jobs”.
