Research Assistant in Distributed Information and Automation Laboratory

A new postdoctoral fellowship position in computer science is available at University of Cambridge. This position is available for 24 months. Potential candidates should apply before November 09, 2018.

A position exists for a Research Assistant /Research Associate in the Distributed Information and Automation Laboratory to work on the Digital Through Life Engineering (TES) project.

The focus of the project is to develop solution approaches for spare part procurement using a combination of modelling, optimisation and data-driven techniques. The post-holder will help develop prototype software systems which can demonstrate the ability to automatically negotiate, optimise and test robust scheduling solutions to improve maintenance processes. The project aims to extend these prototypes into methods to be used within actual operations within industry, and measure and evaluate the effectiveness of these in a real environment.

The skills, qualifications and experience required to perform the role are a PhD (or close to obtaining a PhD) in Engineering, Maths, Computer Science or related scientific discipline, and research experience in all or some of the following areas:

-Simulation, optimisation and modelling approaches, for example with agent-based systems.

-Writing software programs and developing prototype systems for demonstration and experimental learning.

The post holder will be located in West Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, UK.

Appointment at Research Associate level is dependent on having a PhD. Those who have submitted but not yet received their PhD will be appointed at Research Assistant level, which will be amended to Research Associate once the PhD has been awarded.

This post is available from 1st April 2019 for 24 months.

Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available for 24 months in the first instance.
