Research Assistant in Computer Graphics and Vision

Applications are invited for a postdoctoral associate position in computer graphics to join University of Cambridge, UK. Applicants should apply before November 14, 2018.

Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available for up to 9 months.

A position is available to work on “Limits of perceptual realism” with the starting date between January and February 2019. The project aims to create images that would appear highly realistic to the human eye, to the point that they are confused with real-world objects. This will be achieved by combining high dynamic range, binocular stereo and multiple focal depths in a single display setup. The goal is to determine what factors are the most relevant for achieving highly realistic look of the displayed scenes. The outcome of the project will help to define requirements for future display technologies, rendering, representation and storage of visual content. The successful candidate is expected to work with prototypes of novel displays, be responsible for their calibration and creating rendering and processing algorithms for them.

Essential requirements: Candidates should have a 1st class degree in computer science, electronic engineering, mathematics or a closely related discipline, with experience and interest in one of the following areas: Computer Graphics, Computer Vision, Image Processing, Parallel Algorithm Design. Very good programming skills are required.

Desirable skills: It is desirable that a candidate has expertise in programming real-time graphics and GP-GPU programming. Experience with large-scale optimization methods is also desirable. If a candidate has a track record of publications, it should be included in the application as a link to Google Scholar or ORCID profile.

This position is funded through the European Research Council (ERC) Consolidator Grant. The position is open to both UK/EU and non-EU applicants.

Applicants should contact Dr Rafal Mantiuk (http://www.cl.cam.ac.uk/~rkm38/) for further information.

Please ensure you upload your Curriculum Vitae (CV), a covering letter, transcripts (BSc and MSc if completed) and the evidence of competence in English if English is not your first language.
