Research Assistant (fixed Term) at University of Cambridge

Applications are invited for a postdoctoral fellowship position in genetics to join University of Cambridge. This position is available for 3 years in the first instance. Applicants should apply before October 28, 2018.

We are seeking a Research Assistant to join Dr Elisabeth Busch-Nentwich’s research team in the Department of Medicine, University of Cambridge, for an NIH grant funded project entitled “Exploiting zebrafish genetics to identify genes affecting addiction-related phenotypes”.

The successful candidate carry out tasks such as tracking and progressing samples and associated metadata through the various stages of the project and providing updates to the Institute, grant collaborators and funder when required. In addition, the successful candidate will perform lab work including in vitro fertilisation and gamete cryopreservation in zebrafish, producing, submitting and project managing DNA and RNA samples for genotyping and sequencing, and exploring gene expression using RNA-seq analysis and whole mount staining techniques. Some technology transfer will be needed to the Brennan Laboratory at Queen Mary University, including visiting their premises.

Specialist knowledge and skills required for this role include experience of producing and working with high-throughput sequencing samples, samples and metadata management and tracking. Zebrafish experience would be beneficial, but training will be provided.

Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available for 3 years in the first instance.
