Research Assistant at University of Cambridge

A new opening postdoctoral researcher position in molecular biology is available at University of Cambridge, UK. The initial contract for this position is two years. Applications are welcome before November 15, 2018.

The IMAXT laboratory at the CRUK Cambridge Institute (part of the University of Cambridge) is seeking to hire a Research Assistant to collaborate at the realisation of the IMAXT project.

The IMAXT project is a large international consortium that employs cutting-edge technologies to produce 3D models of breast cancer with single cell resolution and molecular annotation. Tissue samples from both animals and women suffering from breast cancer will be analysed to produce maps in which the position of each cell is annotated alongside with its genetic and expression profile. This will provide a huge wealth of data with a resolution never obtained before and allow us to investigate how apparently similar tumours are different from each other, how each tumour interacts with its host and how they adapt and resist to therapy (see for a more detailed description of the project). The central hub for the consortium is the IMAXT laboratory located at CRUK CI, where most of the technology development and data production takes place. The successful applicant will join the IMAXT laboratory team to support the realisation of this ambitious project and will especially focus on models of normal mammary gland development and mammary tumours using techniques such as cell culture, flow cytometry, cell sorting and molecular cloning.

We are looking to recruit an individual with excellent laboratory skills in molecular biology. Experience in tissue culture is essential. The successful candidate should show initiative and independent thinking, possess excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a team.

Applicants should have a B.Sc. or M.Sc. degree in a relevant discipline.

Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available for 1 year in the first instance.

The closing date is 15th November 2018. The interview date is TBC.

Please send applications in the following format: a CV, including full details of all University courses taken with date, with grades if available; a publication record if available; a cover letter explaining why you wish to be considered for this particular role, what you will bring to the project and listing your research experience to date.

Please include details of your referees, including email address and phone number, one of which must be your most recent line manager.
