Research Assistant at Imperial College London

Imperial College London, UK has an opening postdoctoral fellowship position in social sciences. Applications are welcome before October 17, 2018.

The job involves research on an EU funded project focusing on the design and impact of R&D; policies. You will have a keen interest in topics related to economics of growth and innovation. You will be working with Imperial Business School Faculty and you will be jointly working on academic publications as well as policy reports and presentations. You should be able to demonstrate an ability to design, execution and write-up of independent research projects. Experience of organising and supervising other project staff is desirable.

You will have a first or upper second class undergraduate degree in Economics or other quantitative discipline and a Masters in Economics or other quantitative social science discipline passed at a level allowing acceptance on PhD. A candidate who is pursuing a PhD in Economics or other quantitative social science discipline is desirable.

You must have advanced quantitative and analytical skills and experience in dealing with large datasets, as well as advanced experience in using common econometrics and statistics software (e.g. STATA, R, etc.). Experience in the analysis of large micro level datasets is essential. Ideally, you have already worked with patent data and/or firm level datasets. You will also be familiar with common statistics packages, programming languages and have an ability to interpret and analyse patterns or trends in data.

- Work with senior staff members on the design of an EU funded project on the impact and design of R&D; policies

- Conduct research involving large micro datasets

- Manage and collect data

- Contribute to the management of the research project

- Supervise more junior members of staff

- Write academic papers and policy reports

- Communicate research

- Liaise with other project partners

- To attend CEP seminars and other seminars relevant to the project

- Sound understanding of econometrics and/or statistics

- Experience of handling, and quantitative analysis of, large micro level datasets

- Advanced quantitative and analytical skills and experience in dealing with large datasets

- Experienced in econometrics and statistics software (e.g. STATA and/or R etc)
