Postgraduate Research Stipend and Supplementary Scholarships in Human Genome Editing

The University of Sydney, Australia is offering PhD position in genomics. The funds for this position are available for three years. Applications should be sent before December 06, 2018.

This Scholarship is available for PhD students studying human genome editing in the Dr John and Anne Chong Lab for Functional Genomics at the Charles Perkins Centre at the University of Sydney, to support the living costs of students while completing their studies.

Successful recipients will also be considered for the Postgraduate Research Supplementary Scholarship in Human Genome editing.

The Scholarship is open to Australian citizens, Australian permanent residents and New Zealand citizens who have an unconditional offer for admission into a full-time PhD within Faculty of Science at the University of Sydney.

Applicants must be undertaking research in human genome editing within the Dr John and Anne Chong Lab for Functional Genomics at the Charles Perkins Centre.

Applicants must hold an Honours degree (First Class) or a Master’s degree in a related field with a substantial research component, or equivalent.

Applicants must have applied for the Research Training Program (RTP) Scholarship at the University of Sydney.

Shortlisted applicants may be requested to participate in either an in-person or Skype interview.

The successful applicant will be awarded the Scholarship on the nomination of the relevant research supervisor(s) in the Faculty of Science.

The Stipend Scholarship will provide an annual stipend allowance equivalent to the minimum RTP rate (indexed to the RTP rate on 1 January each year) for up to three years, subject to satisfactory academic performance. The recipient may apply for an extension of up to 6 months.

The Supplementary Scholarship will provide an annual stipend supplementary allowance of $13,000 per annum (indexed at the RTP annual percentage increase on January One each year) for up to three years, subject to satisfactory academic performance. Up to a six month extension may be possible.

Periods of study already undertaken towards the degree prior to the commencement of the Scholarship, will be deducted from the maximum duration of the Scholarship excluding the potential extension period.

The Scholarship is for commencement in relevant research period in which it is offered for and cannot be deferred or transferred to another area of research.

No other amount is payable. The Scholarship will be offered subject to the availability of funding.

Progression is subject to passing the annual progress review.
