Postdoctoral Position in Catalytic Emissions Control

Chalmers University of Technology has an opening postdoctoral researcher position in sustainable energy. The funding allows successful candidates to work for three years in the first instance. The deadline for applying is November 04, 2018.

Chemistry and Chemical Engineering is the largest department at Chalmers with research ranging from the most fundamental level to a level close to application in industry and society. The research activities reach from DNA-research and biomaterials to high temperature corrosion, catalysis and recycling. The post-doc position will be located at the Chemical Engineering division of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering. The Division of Chemical Engineering includes the following groups Chemical Process and Reaction Engineering and Forest Products and Chemical Engineering. We have a long tradition of working with both fundamental scientific questions and applied problems together with industry. This position is within the group for Chemical Process and Reaction Engineering. In addition, the position is within the Competence Centre for Catalysis (KCK). KCK, is a research centre focused on heterogeneous catalysis at Chalmers. The goal of the centre is the development of catalytic technology for sustainable transport, energy and environmental systems. Chemical Engineering and KCK at Chalmers strive to provide an excellent environment for carrying out catalysis research with opportunities for collaboration with researchers in related projects or with industry partners.

Information about the project:

This project is focusing on heterogeneous catalysis for cleaning emissions from vehicles and more specifically on ammonia selective catalytic reduction (SCR) for NOx removal.

Major responsibilities

The position will focus on experimental studies. The research will involve a combination of different experimental techniques regarding catalyst synthesis, catalyst characterization, as well as activity experiments. The activity and selectivity of the catalysts will be measured with flow reactors equipped with FTIR and MS. In addition, the catalysts will be characterized by many experimental techniques, like BET, XRD, TPR, ICP, EPR and solid state NMR. Moreover, the surface species detected with in-situ DRIFT spectroscopy. The overall goal is to understand the details regarding the surface mechanisms of the studied catalysts. The position will involve reporting current research results in both written and oral form as well as authoring scientific research publications.

Full-time temporary employment. The position is limited to a maximum of two years (1+1).


To qualify for the position of postdoc, you must have a doctoral degree in catalysis; the degree should generally not be older than three years. You should have experience in synthesis of different zeolites for ammonia SCR. Experience in catalyst characterisation and reactor measurements is also a requirement.
