Postdoc Position/senior Postdoc Position Mass Spectrometry

A postdoctoral Research Associate/Senior Research Associate position is available in the field of mass spectrometry at the Department of Chemical Engineering and Biotechnology (University of Cambridge).

The successful applicant will be joining the research group of Professor Sabine Bahn. The Bahn lab in collaboration with its university spin-out company PsyOmics Ltd is developing combined digital and biomarker tests (using a multiplex MRM panel on dried blood spots) for the early diagnosis of psychiatric disorders.

The ideal candidate will have expertise in developing qualitative/quantitative mass spectrometry (MS) assays, with a strong analytical background. Previous experience with proteome profiling approaches by label-free quantitation and multiple reaction monitoring (MRM) mass spectrometry is essential. The candidate should be highly skilled in the following techniques LC and Triple Quadrupole MS. Extensive hands-on experience in operation/maintenance of Agilent Triple Quadrupole (QQQ) MS instruments with the ability to maintain and troubleshoot HPLC-MS systems is highly desirable.

Extensive hands-on experience with liquid chromatography and tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) (ideally Agilent instruments), and strong troubleshooting abilities.

Strong analytical background in the field of qualitative and quantitative assay development and assay evaluation (e.g. SRM/MRM, DIA/SWATH). Knowledge of targeted-proteomic approaches such as developing multiplexed-MRM assays is a plus.

Knowledge of proteomic sample preparation and enrichment techniques for biological fluids (e.g. plasma, serum, CSF).

Proficiency in handling large-data-sets including basic bioinformatics and biostatistics (including R) skills is a plus.

A suitable candidate will be able to plan and execute research in an efficient and independent manner, will be highly motivated and enjoys working in a multidisciplinary team environment. IT, communication/interpersonal and organizational skills are required. The appointee must be capable of presenting complex scientific topics to academic and industrial partners. Responsibilities may also include supervision of Research Assistants/Associates and Graduate Students.

Appointments at Senior Research Associate level will be subject to approval by Chemical Engineering and Biotechnology Syndicate. An excellent publication record and evidence of working as an independent researcher will be required for appointment at Senior Research Associate level.
