Postdoc Position Medicinal Chemistry Development of Antibacterials Against Targets From Mycobacterium Abscessus

A new opening postdoctoral scholar position in medicinal chemistry is available at University of Cambridge, UK. The deadline for applying is November 11, 2018.

Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available until 31 August 2020 in the first instance.

Applications are invited from PhD and post-doctoral chemists to join a multidisciplinary project funded by the Fondation Botnar. The aim of this project is to develop novel antibiotics that target Mycobacterium abscessus. The project is a collaboration between the Departments of Chemistry (Professor Chris Abell, Dr Anthony Coyne), Biochemistry (Professor Sir Tom Blundell), Medicine (Professor Andres Floto) and the Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute (Professor Julian Parkhill).

Applicants must have, or be about to obtain, a PhD in synthetic organic or medicinal chemistry. They should have a proven track record exemplified by academic publications. Knowledge of medicinal and biophysical chemistry is essential. Experience of antibacterial discovery would be advantageous. The successful applicant will be expected to work closely and interactively with colleagues in different disciplines, to have excellent communication skills and the ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines.
