Postdoc Position in Aquatic Biogeochemistry and Microbial Diversity

The Ecosystems and Global Change Group led by Dr Andrew Tanentzap at the University of Cambridge ( is seeking a full-time Post-Doctoral Research Associate (PDRA). The PDRA will join an exciting new ERC-funded project investigating the ecological and evolutionary Importance of molecular diversity in dissolved organic matter of European lakes. The post must start during February 2019.

The goal of the position is to map the biogeography of microbial communities and chemical diversity in dissolved organic matter. The PDRA will be responsible for planning and delivering a 100 lake survey spanning the entire extent of Europe during the 2019 growing season, so successful experience with project and team management is ideal.

The successful candidate must be a highly motivated scientist with a proven track record of publication in leading peer-reviewed journals that demonstrates innovation in applying theory to empirical datasets. They will have a PhD in ecology, biogeochemistry, or a related subject and considerable experience with all of the following: water chemistry sampling, environmental metagenomics, bio/cheminformatics, and statistical modelling. It is also an occupational requirement for the successful applicant to be able to drive due to the remote locations of fieldwork.

Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available for 3 years in the first instance.
